Description given to two substitutents attached to adjacent atoms when their bonds are at 60o with respect to each other. Below are generic representations of gauche conformations in both Newman projects and wedge-and-dash drawings. Gauche conformations are a form of staggered conformations, which are generally more stable than eclipsed conformations.
